Meet the Grey Eyed Owl Family

Timeless Learning for a Digital Age

GEO Certified Tutors

“There are no boring subjects - only boring teachers”

We believe that learning begins and ends with experienced and friendly academic mentors. That is why we select only the most inspired and inspiring people for our team. At Grey Eyed Owl, we soar above and beyond any expectations one might have for the learning process. Our tutors form lasting bonds with their students and their families alike, fostering a genuine community of world-class, twenty-first century scholars.

Joining the ranks as a Grey Eyed Owl tutor is no small feat. Fewer than 5% of applicants make it through our rigorous, multi-round hiring process. Those who do must undergo over 120 hours of extensive orientation and professional development before meeting with students. When screening candidates, we look not just for superlative degrees from top universities and outstanding test scores in the 98th percentile, but for something rarer: curiosity, compassion, and cognitive empathy. Grey Eyed Owl tutors are not just instructors. We are mentors, role models, and enthusiastic partners in the lifelong pursuit of learning.

Meet the Chief Executive Owl

DANIEL M. BENNETT

Born and raised in New York, Daniel Bennett attended college at the University of Virginia, where he graduated with High Distinction from the Modern Studies Honors Program. After college, he spent a year in Shanghai, China studying Mandarin and teaching English on a Republic of China Fellowship.

Inspired by the economic development unfolding before his eyes, Bennett returned to the U.S. to complete a post-baccalaureate degree in behavioral economics, followed by four years of work on Wall Street at Morgan Stanley. As a member of the Asset Liquidity Management (ALM) Division, he helped manage the firm's North American portfolio of $150 billion in inventory with products spanning Equity, Fixed income, and Derivatives. Bennett was also responsible for the firm's Federal Reserve Lockup Account and developed innovative analyst training programs.

Upon receiving a scholarship to Business School, Bennett said farewell to Wall Street to pursue a master’s in finance at Durham University in the United Kingdom, where he was honored to graduate as valedictorian, out of a class of 400 students. His master's thesis explored the rise and fall of market manias, financial panics, and economic crashes, focusing especially on the tech-driven bull market of 2010-20. Bennett returned to the U.S. once more to reconnect with his academic roots and passion for education. He continues to consult for private businesses in areas of finance, strategy, innovation, and project management.

Outside of the office and classroom, Bennett enjoys traveling and exploring all that the world has to offer. His hobbies include reading, creative writing, theater, movies, and museums. Bennett enjoys hiking and running half-marathons, is decent on the ski slopes, and terrible on a surfboard. While not to be trusted in the kitchen, he’s happy to keep a chef entertained with a bottle of red wine and rich conversation.
