Achieving Academic Excellence

The Grey Eyed Owl High School curriculum is designed to support students across a wide spectrum of academic programs.
Whether navigating Regular, Honors, or Advanced Placement courses in American schools; GCSEs and A-Levels in British systems; or IGCSE and IB Diploma Programmes in international schools, GEO provides expert, comprehensive guidance to ensure students thrive in every subject they undertake.
“You cannot help but learn more as you take the world into your hands.
Take it up reverently, for it is an old piece of clay, with millions of thumbprints on it.”
-John Updike
In High School, students begin to shape their academic identities by selecting subjects that speak to their strengths and interests. GEO helps them make thoughtful choices while ensuring that core knowledge continues to deepen.
We believe that strong scores are the result of focused, methodical preparation that builds genuine mastery. There are no shortcuts — just deep understanding of the foundational principles in reading, writing, math, and reasoning.
Summer is an ideal time to grow beyond the classroom — whether through academic exploration, creative pursuits, internships, or community service. We help students craft meaningful summer experiences that align with their interests and set them apart in the college admissions process.
Our Student Journey team keeps watch over each student’s development, ensuring that every step is intentional and authentic. We don’t believe in chasing college admissions for its own sake. Instead, we guide students toward building real interests, strong character, and a love of learning.

High School Coursework Tutoring
High School is the moment when subjects stop feeling like requirements and begin to feel like realms of possibility.
As a student’s intellectual identity begins to crystallize, we help students meet the challenges of Honors, AP, IB, A-Level, and beyond — not just with precision and confidence, but with a sense of purpose, wonder, and mastery.

High School Test Prep Tutoring
At Grey Eyed Owl, test preparation is treated not as a chore, but as a formative rite of passage — a sharpening of the intellect and a deepening of academic resolve.
The SAT and ACT are not arbitrary hurdles; they are invitations to return to the foundational arts of grammar, rhetoric, and mathematics — subjects whose mastery has long marked the educated mind. Through test prep, students hone not only their academic strengths but also the habits of discipline, precision, and endurance that will serve them for years to come.
We see each test not as a gatekeeper, but as a mirror — reflecting back to the student their growing ability to read with insight, to reason with clarity, and to express themselves with conviction. It is not merely about achieving a score; it is about rising to the occasion with confidence, mastery, and grace.
PSAT
At Grey Eyed Owl, PSAT preparation is folded elegantly into the larger academic journey. We teach students to see the PSAT not merely as a test, but as a map — one that reveals the intellectual terrain ahead.
Our signature three-phase test prep program is designed as a deliberate and comprehensive pilgrimage, elevating our students’ academic prowess no matter what test they are working towards.
Phase 1 - Comprehensive Review of Concepts
Beginning ideally in the Winter of 10th grade, Phase 1 introduces students to high-level material they may not yet have encountered in school. Using specialized resources, students gain exposure to the advanced concepts tested on the SAT and ACT. This early phase also gives tutors the opportunity to assess foundational gaps and begin closing them before more rigorous work begins.
Phase 2 - Rigorous Practice Drills & Content Mastery
In the Spring and Summer of 10th grade, Phase 2 turns toward focused skill-building through intensive drills. Students deepen their understanding of the material, reinforce key concepts, and learn to apply their knowledge across a wide range of test scenarios.
Phase 3 - Test Taking Strategies & Refined Performance
Running through the Autumn and Winter of 11th grade, Phase 3 centers on strategy and stamina. Students complete timed practice exams to simulate real test-day conditions. The goal is to refine pacing, sharpen test-day judgment, and instill the confidence needed to excel under pressure.
SAT
The SAT rewards deep thinking, careful reading, and a mastery of core mathematical concepts — all of which are central to the GEO philosophy. Our students don’t just study for the test; they learn to approach it as a proving ground for the skills they’ve honed over years of study.
ACT
With its evolving format and flexible structure, the ACT offers students a chance to showcase their strengths. GEO’s tailored preparation ensures they do just that — with clarity, speed, and strategic focus across every section they choose to take.

High School Summer Enrichment
Summer is not simply a pause in the academic calendar — it is a golden, sun-dappled invitation to grow in unexpected and extraordinary ways.
This is the season when young minds stretch out into the world, unburdened by bell schedules and nightly homework, and discover what truly captivates them. Our summer offerings are both rigorous and revelatory: a time for focused test prep and High School readiness, yes, but also for chasing questions, cultivating talents, and tending to the secret gardens of the self. Here, learning blooms in full — and what might seem like a break becomes a quiet revolution in a student’s journey.
-
For High School students, summer is an invaluable period to either consolidate the past year’s learning or to prepare for the upcoming challenges of advanced courses. Students who might have encountered difficulties during the regular school year can use this time to revisit foundational concepts, ensuring they start the new school year on solid footing. Following a targeted summer syllabus, tutors help students to proactively address any gaps in understanding, reinforcing core academic skills in subjects such as math, science, history, and English.
Conversely, for students aiming to excel beyond the standard curriculum, Grey Eyed Owl offers advanced previews of upcoming honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. This proactive approach allows students to familiarize themselves with more complex concepts at a comfortable pace, which facilitates a deeper engagement and comprehension during the regular school year. This preparation is crucial for those who aspire to top-tier academic performance, as it fosters enhanced understanding and mastery of the material.
-
Our summer test prep programs are meticulously designed to prepare students for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT — critical exams that play a significant role in college admissions. Recognizing that these tests often include advanced material not introduced until later in High School, Grey Eyed Owl provides intensive instruction that covers all test sections comprehensively. By focusing on test prep in the summers before their 10th and 11th grade years, students develop a strong command of the test formats and question types, significantly boosting their scores and confidence. Meanwhile, for the 11th grade student who might be feeling a few steps behind on their test prep journey the summer break provides an excellent opportunity for a bootcamp-style intensive to regain any ground lost during the rigors of the school year.
The focused study environment furnished by the summer months allows for uninterrupted test prep sessions that build the endurance and skills necessary to excel on these exams. For more on our three-phase test prep program, see High School Test Prep, below.

Student Journey & College Advising
The voyage towards college does not begin with application deadlines and essay prompts; it begins much earlier, in the quiet unfolding of interests and first sparks of genuine inquiry.
Our Student Journey College Advising (SJCA) program serves as both compass and chronicle, guiding students throughout high school to make decisions that are not just strategic, but meaningful.
It is a steady current running alongside a student’s academic journey, beginning in the summer before ninth grade, so that by the time college applications arrive on the horizon, our students are not scrambling to assemble a story — they are stepping into it. They have already charted their course, and now it’s simply time to tell the tale.
The GEO High School journey is crafted as a profound expedition into the realms of knowledge and self-discovery, where students do more than just answer questions — they engage deeply with the ideas and challenges presented to them.
This educational voyage is thoughtfully designed to do more than prepare them for exams; it equips them with the analytical and critical thinking skills essential for navigating the intricate pathways of life, higher education, and future careers.
Our students learn to tackle the world’s enigmas with wisdom and insight, prepared to alter the landscapes they encounter.
