“I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve (or save) the world and a desire to enjoy (or savor) the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.”
- E. B. White
Solènne graduated from Yale with a double major in Pure Mathematics and English, where she spent her days proving theorems and her nights unraveling the Western Canon. Her dual love for numbers and narrative led her through 80 cornerstone texts, countless creative writing workshops, and a growing fascination with the parallels between structure in storytelling and structure in math. In 2023, she received the Elmore A. Willets Prize for her short story Physical Education—a fitting title for a writer who never stops moving between disciplines.
As a senior peer advisor in Yale’s math department, Solènne worked to make the field more accessible to women and underclassmen, all while tutoring Linear Algebra, leading orientation backpacking trips, and teaching group fitness classes. Her teaching philosophy—equal parts rigor and play—shines through in every lesson, whether she’s decoding derivatives or crafting essays.
In her junior year, Solènne rediscovered a first love: the stage. After performing as Yente in Fiddler on the Roof, she wrote, composed, and directed her own original musical, Tell Me Something, Suite, before training at the École Philippe Gaulier in France (yes, clown school). Now enrolled in its intensive program, she continues to bridge the worlds of logic and lyricism. Her students often say that learning math with Solènne feels like watching a story unfold—which, for her, is exactly the point.
