VIII. Rigging the Sails
Activities & Extracurricular Profile
“What is there more unruly than the sea, with its winds, its tornadoes, and its tempests? And yet in what department of her work has Nature been more seconded by the ingenuity of man than in this, by his inventions of sails and of oars?”
— Pliny the Elder, The Natural History, Book IX (77 CE)
Creating a strong extracurricular profile starts long before you fill out an application. As part of the GEO College Advising journey, students are encouraged to explore and reflect on their authentic interests—not just activities that look impressive on paper, but pursuits that genuinely inspire, energize, and sustain them over time. From there, your Navigational Crew helps identify opportunities for deeper engagement, leadership roles, and meaningful impact.
When it’s time to craft the activities list and resume, we’ll guide you in translating your experience into clear, compelling language that highlights both scope and significance. Whether you’ve launched your own initiative or held down a part-time job, your contributions will be rigged to sail — polished, purposeful, and pointed directly toward your goals.
