Middle School Humanities & Social Sciences

Art History, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology – schools are getting increasingly creative in what humanities and social science courses a Middle Schooler might take. Or perhaps your student has expressed an early interest in these subjects, but no school to teach them!

From the rise of civilizations to the movements that shape modern society, our courses in humanities and the social sciences offer young scholars a first glimpse into the intricacies of human behavior and thought. Whether assisting with a formal curriculum in school or nurturing a spark of independent curiosity, GEO equips its owls to explore these disciplines with depth, creativity, and purpose. Our instructors foster analytical thinking, empathy, and a sense of connectedness to the broader world — all essential traits for tomorrow’s thinkers, leaders, and changemakers.

  • Students embark on a visual odyssey across cultures and centuries, learning how art reflects the beliefs, politics, and innovations of its time. From Paleolithic cave paintings to modern abstraction, they explore how humans have used image and form to understand themselves and the world.

  • Through playful yet practical models, students begin to grasp the forces of supply and demand, opportunity cost, and global trade. They’ll explore how individual choices shape economies, and how those economies, in turn, shape societies.

  • Students build early fluency in budgeting, saving, and investing, with simulations and case studies that make personal finance tangible. The goal is to demystify money, empowering students with knowledge that can serve them for life.

  • Students are introduced to the structures of government, diplomacy, and international relations, while also learning how to critically engage with current events. We encourage informed discussion and respectful debate, nurturing both civic awareness and global empathy.

  • Students ponder timeless questions about knowledge, morality, and existence through classic thought experiments and guided dialogue. They are encouraged to think deeply, question confidently, and explore the world through a lens of wonder and reason.
